Quarriers
We are looking for volunteers to act as befrienders to children and young people who attend as day pupils (where there are limited supports for the day pupil in their community) and especially children who are residential pupils who are looked after at Seafield 365 days a year and don’t have any overnight home/family contact or respite from the group living environment. The volunteering will take place around two hours a week with the young person - early evenings or weekends in and around the Ardrossan area or Largs area is matched with a young person living at Marton.
The main tasks will be to take part in activities and outings with the
young person – focusing on activities that will encourage the child/young
person to build on strengths and talents (e.g. football, fishing etc). To
attend occasional whole school events and to be part of the Seafield team
and to take up a regular supervision meeting with the allocated manager
identified to support the volunteer.
Some of the skills required include an open, approachable and relaxed manner, resilience – able to think on your feet and show initiative, some experience of working with children and young people or supporting young people in difficulty may be helpful, but most importantly being sensitive and empathic to the circumstances and background of children in c are is necessary, a positive attitude towards children and young people. energy and enthusiasm, good listening skills and willingness to undertake training and accept support and advice from residential childcare staff/managers.
Full training and support will be provided and all expenses reimbursed.
