Ardrossan wind turbine fire being investigated
The cause of the fire at an Ardrossan wind turbine is being investigated by the energy company who manage the site.
Shortly after the blaze last Thursday (December 8), s1ardrossan posted a photograph of the burning turbine by local man, Stuart McMahon, and reported that the fire caused part of the B780 to close.
Renewable generation company, Infinis, has since confirmed that a nacelle on the structure burst into flames amidst extreme stormy weather conditions.
However, it extinguished itself before fire-fighters arrived and no one in the area was injured.
A spokesperson for Infinis said: “As a standard precautionary measure, all Infinis staff vacate wind farms when wind speeds exceed 55 mph and therefore no one was present on site at the time of the incident.
“The local distribution network operator, Scottish Power, was immediately notified of the incident and the site has been disconnected from the electricity network as a precautionary measure.”
The cause of the fire is not yet known and Infinis has taken immediate steps to investigate it fully.
