Get ready to run for 10k Fun Run from Ardrossan

  • Get your running shoes on for the second annual Irvine Bay 10k fun run, which starts from Ardrossan

Get your running shoes on, and get in training for the second annual Irvine Bay 10K Fun Run, which sets off from Ardrossan on Sunday 15th August.

Irvine Bay Regeneration Company is backing the event, to take place at 10.30am on August 15th at Ardrossan, for the second year.

The event, the brainchild of well-known local runner Jim Montgomerie, seeks to build on the success of last year when around 120 hardy souls took part.

Jim, also known as The Running Kilt, began running marathons in 2003 in New York and has since taken part in a number of high profile runs in London, Brazil, the North Pole and even at The Great Wall of China.

But he reckons few places are more enjoyable than at Irvine Bay. He said: "It's a real family day, It's definitely for fun and to allow people to raise money for local, national and international charities, and it takes place entirely off-road with the beach and the sea right beside you all the way. It is a fantastic location for the event, and I am confident that we will better last year's total and continue to build the success of the event."

Stewards and supporters will be encouraging participants throughout the 10k and refreshments, t-shirts and medals will be waiting for everyone who crosses the finishing line.

Patrick Wiggins, chief executive of Irvine Bay Regeneration Company said: "We are delighted to be supporting Jim once again with what promises to be a fantastic event. We believe this event is great for the local area, encouraging community spirit and highlighting to people what a great place Irvine Bay is to live, work and visit. We would encourage people young and old to get involved and show their support."

For those wishing to take part, entry costs £10. Send your entry form and cheque (made payable to The Running Kilt Sport & Adventure, 54 Sharphill Road, Saltcoats, Ayrshire, KA21 5QT)

Cash entries can be handed into The Victoria, 8 Raise Street, Saltcoats, Ayrshire, KA21 5JU. The closing date for entries is Sunday 25th July - and no entries will be accepted on the day.

Irvine Schmirvin stop trying to encroach on our wee community with your Irvine Bay Malarky, Irvine is a dump and we don't want to be associated with it. Your pretentious and cynical attempts to steal away our locality has not gone unnoticed. There is no such place as Irvine Bay and there never will be...Three Toons Forever...

ray baird says

well said the dog  but i think there is actually such a place as irvine bay..........unfortunately

Gordon Browns Dog says

Yeah Ray I realised that when I was posting this but that Irvine Bay is a physical entity while technically I was talking about the Mythical Irvine Bay invented by the Greed driven sychophantic morons trying to invade our hometowns and rebrand us all...Hitler tried it and failed and so did the Romans...So what makes them think they can do any better?

Have your say...
