Winning firm unveils design for Ardrossan Beach pavillion

  • The winning design was unveiled by Cooper Architects

Architects have unveiled the winning design in a competition for a new Beach Pavillion in Ardrossan, with Cooper Architects providing the new look building.

The competition was run by RIAS Consultancy on behalf of the Irvine Bay Regeneration company, and the winning design was posted by the winning firm here on their website.

The building is described as: "Providing outdoor seating, cafe and public toilet facilities, the pavilion will provide a new focal point and beacon on the majestic sweeping bay.

"The form of the building is both dynamic and practical, with a zinc clad envelope extending towards the sea to provide natural shelter and solar shading, whilst also capturing and framing the wonderful sea views in a huge picture window."

Stagecoach have the copyright on that design but it does look a rather more comfortable bus shelter than normal...

Well at least a bus shelter would be useful!!!  This is more like something from Dr Who, not a Scottish seaside town. This is a diabolical, unsightly monstrosity!  Why were local people not afforded the respect of having a say in this?  As an Ardrossan resident I am disgusted to find this seems to be a fait accomplis!!!  Come on Irvine Bay what were you thinking of?

Come on Ray do you seriously think the people who commision these things have the Interests of local people at heart? Remember the Bad Idea in Irvine created by middle and upper class twits as a plaything for their pretentious pally wals. And look what happened to that...What a minging design...

Yea I suppose it was a bit naive of me to think that 'they' would deign to ask us commoners what our thoughts were but 'they' are always going on about choice and 'we are/have consulted the public'.  Seems like they only do this when it suits them, but then they ignore what their consultations find and do what they were going to do all along!
